The internationally recognized Chevrolet cars were named after their prolific founder Louis Chevrolet. He started the firm in 1912 after a successful career as race car driver. He started this venture with the William Durant who was partner in then leading car makers of that time called General Motors. Later the Dr. Edwin Campbell was also introduced as partner in this business as well.
The Design team was headed by the William Durant, who provided the basic design that was similar to GM. Durant used his knowledge of the Buick plant in here quite effectively and even included many key personal from there too. Interestingly this whole change from GM to Chevrolet happened as a result of removal of Durant from the GM team. As a result Durant wanted to make his mark as automaker too. Another reason of this partnership is that Chevrolet had a good relationship with Durant as result of being the face of Buick for many years.

The first six designs of Chevy, and production process was created by the famous car designer Etienne Planche, a close associate of Louis. The team planned and executed the whole process effortlessly, as the actual plant, and parts started production months before they incorporated Chevrolet as the brand name. The story behind the famous Chevrolet is also interesting too. The famous bowtie emblem logo was created by Durant. He often remembered that as wallpaper design from French hotel he one stayed. Some suggestions about the Swiss cross as the main inspiration are there as well as both the patents of Louis were from there.
In 1915 the Chevrolet partnership parted ways, as Durant sold his shares after some differences about the logo. At that time the company had not making any profits as yet, soon after the departure of Durant the company started making profits too. One interesting twist came in 1917, when the majority share of the Chevy was repurchased by Durant after becoming the president of GM as well. After this the Chevy became a subsidiary of the GM as well.
The innovative team of Chevy produced some stunning designs in 1918; often remembered as the key design year. Model D, with four and five passengers were produced in that year. This was not only great in looks but had strong engine as well. The engine included low emission head, and valves were created in the overhead for the first time also. The Chrysler Corporation was created in 1928. The first two seat sports car design for Chevy was launched in 1957. Another interesting invention by the Chevy team is the cooled engine which was placed in the back in that year too.
